This trend is further accentuated by the portrayal of men supporting flashy pieces of jewellery in cinema. Accessories as they are with cars and gizmos. In the past the passion for jewellery rested with women alone. From the mafia kings carrying extravagant neckpieces, to the young lover wearing a kinky bracelet gifted by his fiancé, men across all channels are being quick enough to adopt the trend. In this section, we take a look on the latest developments in this trend along with the major newsmakers in this aspect. Gemstones are a valuable part of any piece of antique jewellery. Common sense is the best preventative measure when caring for any antique gemstone. Although the metal components of ornaments often receive the most attention, gemstone care is equally as important. Hairdryers should never be used to dry freshly-cleaned gemstones, and no pieces should ever come in contact with chlorine. It is crucial to protect antique jewellery as a whole, in order to maintain as much value as possible over time. Firstly we talked about the cut of the stone. Now finding a good quality bright green tourmaline with this cut is not impossible to find but can be tricky so we decided that custom cutting was the way forward. We custom cut the green tourmaline from a larger cushion stone to create the look. We combined the chequer board facetted cut on top but with a more square proportioned shape rather than oval. The lapidaries squared up the proportions and then facetted the top of the stone. This creating a square cushion shape with a facetted top! Donna felt a straight sided square stone would be a little harsh so decided that she would like to have the stone with softened corners. The initial stone was 1.72cts and ended up at 1.05ct. After being cut gemstone it is difficult. We searched for a green tourmaline of the right colour that could be cut to shape. The twist ring is simple in style holds the tourmaline for a modern design. |
